Windows Update Error 80070490
Like so many users before, I am dogged by this error. I have a Dell XPS M1530 loaded with VIndows Home Premium 32-bit. My last successful Windows Update was on 6/13/12. Since then I have tried three solutions, all have failed. I have tried:
Checksur.exe
Microsoft Fixit
Reinstalling Windows via DVD
What do you think I should do? There is a download on Wikierrors, and the like. My wife suggests replacing the hard drive and build everything up again. I am happy to do what is necessary, but I am a layman and need guidance.
Thank you.

DohaDell,
That means that your hard drive is slowly failing. Please backup all files and folders that you cannot afford to lose.
You'll need to replace the hard drive. If under warranty, contact Dell Te ch Support.

I ran the Dell diagnostic option in the pre-boot menu and came up with an error #0146
The memory tests were running, but I returned to the computer to find it had shut off, so I don't know if they completed.

Hey Rick thanks. I've ordered a new HDD and I've sent the error info to Dell Tech Support.

DohaDell,
If you're under warranty, Dell will replace the hard drive at no cost. You just have to send the old hard drive back. The last hard drive I replaced, it installed the operating system and drivers automatically.
