Windows Update Fail after Windows7 Re-installed

Hi,

Recently upgraded pc to SSD requiring re-install of Win7 OS.

All went well apart from Windows Updates which have stalled. This in turn appears to be affecting antivirus browser & privacy aps which can't open properly or install.

Please advise.

Re: Windows Update Fail after Windows7 Re-installed

Always include the PC model in your posts.

Is this Win 7, 32- or 64-bit? Is it Win 7 with or without Service Pack 1 (SP1)? Did you install all the latest drivers for your hardware from the Dell support site, in the correct order?

We won't be able to see the image you posted until the moderators approve it. So if you're getting an error message from Windows Update, post exactly what it says...

You may have to manually update Windows Update to the latest version by downloading and running the "stand-alone package" before WU will run.

Re: Windows Update Fail after Windows7 Re-installed

Thanks,

Inspiron 570 Desktop, long out of warranty.

Windows 7 Home Premium, SP1, 64bit, 2.8GHz cpu.

No, I loaded the drivers from the original back-up CD which came with the pc.

Think my updates are current now.

Re: Windows Update Fail after Windows7 Re-installed

Did you try updating Windows Update like I suggested above?

Are you sure you installed Win 7+SP1? Your history shows that Windows Update tried to install Windows Service Pack 1 multiple times and failed each time. It shouldn't have tried to install SP1 if it was already installed...

The drivers on that CD are probably out-of-date, even though the drivers listed on the Support page for this model are all from around 2012. But check that page to see if any listed there are newer than what you installed.

Error 80070103 typically means Windows Update tried to install a driver or other component that was older than the version already installed.

As for 800b0100, go here and download the Windows Update Readiness Tool for Win 7+SP1, 64-bit and follow the instructions on that page to run the tool. Then reboot and try running Windows Update again.

Re: Windows Update Fail after Windows7 Re-installed

The full windows 7 SP1 must be installed  you burn this disk and run setup as administrator.

Then the FULL DOTNET 4.7.2 must be installed.

Then Microsoft Security Essentials installed with any other antivirus software removed.  Microsoft Specifically stopped supporting antivirus vendors that did not submit their code to microsoft.  Microsoft will continue to require that AV software is compatible and in cases where there are known issues of AV driver compatibility, they block those vendors from updates to avoid any issues.

Then The trouble shooter must be run and it must be re booted 15 times between updates.

All of that and 18 hours and reboots later and you are done.
