Windows Vista Update (HP, 32-bit) problems - 2 updates continually fail to install
Hi,
I'm wondering if anyone has had/having a similar problem and can help.
I run Windows Update frequently to keep my software tip-top but there are two updates that continually fail. Now I'm in an annoying cycle of installing these updates, when I reboot being told they've failed and then being told to install them again...
Here's the two updates:
* Update for Windows Vista (KB955839) | Error details: Code 800703EE | [Failed 121 times]
* Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and .NET Framework 3.5 Family Update (KB951847) x86 | Error details: Code 800703EE | [Failed 13 times]
This is my laptop - Dell Inspiron XPS M1330 | Windows Vista (32-bit) Home Premium (Service Pack 1) | 4 GB RAM | 320 GB HD.
The Microsoft website says that support for software provided by hardware manufactures is provided by the vendor (I'm guessing companies like Dell have done a nice OEM deal that lets Microsoft off-the-hook regarding provision of support). Dell wants to charge me £39 even though my laptop is less than a year old and still in warranty. I've done the usual Google searches - other people seem to have similar problems with non-Dell laptops however non of the posts I've found have any solutions.
Would a reinstall help? If so would I need to reformat my HD and start from scratch or just install Vista with my other programs and files in place?
Really appreciate any advice/help

Hello,
In the event you are still experiencing problems with the updates, I recently read that Microsoft now has a new Vista forum of their own. Perhaps posting your question there may result in some satisfaction. Also, have you Googled or checked the error code on Microsoft's websites?
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/default.aspx
Microsoft has a free tech service for the Vista Service Pack 1. Many people had problems with this update; here is the link.
http://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?gprid=500921&logqs=gprid%5c%3d500921×tmp=633756781074317116&gsaid=500921&cn=US&prid=11274&ct=2&as=1&acty=ACESupportTopic&ctl=ActiveScripting&wf=PID&ln=en-us&tzone=240
Here is some information on Code 800703EE:

Sorry I cannot do more, but I hope this information directs you to someone who can be of more assistance.

Thanks Nissi1,
I've submitted the issue to Microsoft's Tech service. If they come back with a solution I'll post it here in the hope that it will be useful for others.

Hello DJL_XPS_M1330,
Thank you for the update.
While you wait for a response from Microsoft, you may wish to familiarize yourself with other information that may be available.
Sometimes you may come upon a solution to a computer problem just by Googling it. For example, I just Googled "installing Vista Service Pack 1" and below is one of the solutions I found:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936330
Also, many users of this forum had much difficulty installing SP1. I also suggest you do a search here for "installing SP1" or some similar parameters, to determine if a solution to your particular issue was ever posted.
I hope you get a response soon. I know how frustrating it can be when the waiting time exceeds 2-3 days.:emotion-6:
Continued blessings,

Please consider the "chat" option. I have used this option many times with Dell and Verizon. During a chat session, with your permission, techs can take control of your computer and fix the problem themselves if the need arises.
