On running system file checker there is a request for XP Professional CD2 to install files to the DLL cache. I did not receive an installation CD with this Inspiron 9300 series laptop. How can I install the needed files without the CD?
Systems that shipped beginning in early 2005 ship without Windows XP. You can contact Dell and request a CD and wait for it to ship, see Contact Us at the bottom of the page.
The reason I asked was I've never had SFC find anything wrong, ever. Does it give the file name that is bad? All the original needed files are in the C:\i386 folder, the same location that is on the CD.
No, the information button tells me that I need to insert the XP Professional CD2. I did a chat with Dell support and they are sending me a XP CD as a friendly gesture.
Without a file name I can't give you the info to do a manual fix. In Win98 it used to show the name of the file. Doesn't the [information] button show anything relating to the file?
