Windows XP pseudo-reinstall

Where can I find documentation that would show me what the file hierarchy would look like if I restored my pc to its original factory settings?  Thanks!

Don't quite understand what you intend on doing, as the title seems to infer you want to reinstall Windows XP.
However, in the post you mention "original factory settings" ?????????:smileysurprised:

I hope the following makes sense. Since purchasing my pc, my software, including files, programs, data, etc. have become a disorganized mess. I want to restore my software to a "like new" condition. HOWEVER, I don't want to go thru the lengthy process of saving everything, forgetting something in the process, and then having to recreate what I forgot to save. Also, because of the long passage of time, won't I have to endure a lengthly Window Update too?  Thanks for your help!

You data is in one place, the "My Documents" folder.  Simple enough to backup.  Running Belarc Advisor will give you a complete inventory of your system as is now. Frankly, what you are trying to do will be the more complex and time consuming versus a clean install.
