Windows XP re installation disk question

Hello all, A co-worker has given me a very nice, well maintained Dimension 8300 desktop. The only catch was I had to give her the hard drive back. I will be installing a new drive and I plan on re-installing the original XP Pro just to get it up and running. I have all of the Dell back up disks except the XP. I have seen numerous listings on Ebay for XP re-installation disks and some of them are SP3. Will the original XP product key work with an SP3 disk or do I have to use an original XP version disk and then try to find the service pack downloads. After i get it up and running I will check for Win 7 compatibility.

 rm31859,

If you are adding a new hard drive and have a Windows xp disc that is a Retail version you would just use the product key code listed on the XP disk.

That's just it, I don't have a disk at all. I am going to have to obtain an install/ reinstall disk, preferably Dell, and use the key on the computer tag.

XP is obsolete and reached end of life in April 2014 it is unsecure and should no longer be used.

The Dimension 8300 on the other hand is very weak hardware and will not run Windows 10 very well.

You will not get XP Reinstallation Media but should find the Dell Windows XP Home Reinstallation CD or Dell Windows XP Pro Reinstallation CD on eBay. Select the one that matches your COA. These will use OEM SLP activation and automatically activate when installed via a Dell BIOS. Service Pack level doesn't matter... but I prefer to slipstream SP3 before using the XP Reinstallation CD see here:
