Windows XP registry error messages at startup
After installing a bunch of applications on my new Dell desktop I started getting a pair of dialogs in succession after user login, as Windows XP Home Edition finishes loading. They seem to refer to a registry application call that is either empty or contains only a linefeed. The first error is:
Windows cannot find'
' [just like that, with the second quote on a new line]
The second, with a "Desktop" title bar, is:
Could not load or run '
' specified in the registry.
Can anyone suggest a way of finding the offending registry entry? I'll call Dell support before I change anything in the registry but if possible I'd like to identify the problem first.

Since this is a new PC, my suggestion would be to do a System Restore to the point before you added all the software. That will get you back to a clean start. One piece of advice, do not add alot of software closely together. Always do them one at a time and shakedown your pc for a couple of days before moving on to another install. You cannot solve problems easily when you have added alot at the same time, as you never know which one is causing the problem. And always set a restore point before adding each new software program.
