Windows error: windows cannot find rundll32.exe
I need help with my Deminsion 3000, everytime I try to open the control panel I get this message: windows cannot find c/windows/system32/rundll32.exe.
when I am on a website i cannot enter information into any of the boxes, for instance if I was on the computer i would not be able to enter the information into this box. Can someone tell me what to do to stop this error?
I've tried to reinstall the windows cd but that didn't work.
thanks,
Caroline

What did you do and exactly what happened?
Assuming you haven't reformatted your hard drive and/or damaged XP beyond repair, run the windows system file checker from your desktop:
click start>run
type in: sfc /scannow
(space between sfc and /)
click ok
Insert XP CD if sfc requests it and reboot when it's done.
You're the second person to post this exact problem this week.

As for sfc, open the Windows Event Viewer (start>programs>administrative tools>event viewer). Click System at left. Look in right pane around the time you ran sfc for Windows File Protection entries. Open each one and see what they say. One should say "started", another "successful". If they say something different or there are more than just these 2, read them and post the error messages they contain.
Open folder c:\i386. You should find rundll32.exe. Copy that file ( do not move it ) into folder c:\windows\system32. Reboot.

1. put the windows xp vcd rom disk in the cd rom drive.
2. click start, and then click run
3. type expand x:\i386\rundll32.ex_c:\windows\system32\rundll32.exe in the open box, where x is the letter of your cd rom drive
4. restart the computer
I tried that but nothing happened, absolutely nothing happend.
I'm going to try your second suggestion, I'll get back to you.
