Hi ukundan,

This error might have been caused when there is a power outage especially after few seconds of switching on the system. Request you to try following the below steps:

(1) Keep tapping F8 key at the Dell logo to enter into selection mode.

(2) Select the safe mode option and let windows get stuck at the crcdisk.sys.

(3) Now just leave it as it is.

(4) Within few minutes the system reboots by itself and windows actually works but if it doesn’t, then you will have to use a bootable USB disc or CD and try to get into the c: drive and issue the chkdsk /r command

Or you may also use the installation disk and go into repair mode.

Since you donot have the OS disc do send me the system service tag via private message. I will check and see what can be done.

To send a private message, click on my user name and select start conversation.

Run the Dell F12 pre-boot diagnostics and any extended tests. See Windows Reinstallation Guide page 410 and create a bootable diagnostics USB or CD using another computer. Run any extended tests. This will tell you the condition of the hard drive.

Next follow page 305 and download a copy of the setup files from Digital River using another computer and make a bootable USB.

Once you have the bootable USB follow the instructions on page 389 and perform a StartUp Repair.

If you fix the Vista boot problem and the performance of your machine is bad then follow A Clean Install of Windows Vista on page 151; carry out Step 1c to backup your product activation. Note if you are carrying out clean installation you may consider upgrading to Windows 7 or 8.1 instead (when the 8.1 update is released).
