Windowsxp sound scheme

Question

I have had a problem with the windows sound scheme for XP not working. I have went to controlpanel>audio sound devices>sounds and set it to default sounds and the little play button is greyed out and will not play the sound but i can click on the way file itself and it will play.  i have also tried to put the assiocated .wav file with the event but still can not get it to work. any help would be appreciated.

Try this http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm Line 6  left hand side  Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it and answer yes to the import prompt

tried that and still did not ungrey the play button. also uninstalled the onboard sound card and reinstalled it to no avail
