XP MC v2005 SP2 disk and doing SFC

I have Win XP MC v2005 SP3 on my system presently. I had some boot or system files get corrupted and could not boot. I tried to create a slipstream DVD using the supplied MC 2005 SP2 DVD and downloaded SP3. This forum says you can not slipstream with Media Center. Is this true?

I finally went back and did a repair using the original DVD sent by Dell, XP MC v2005 SP2. I then applied SP3 and all subsequent updates. I want to ensure I have a full and functioning set of OS software in case a portion of these files are corrupt and I am not aware yet. So I tried running SFC /Scannow. No matter what I put into the DVD player, supplied MC v2005 SP2 or slipstreamed with SP3, SFC keeps asking for the Windows CD.  I can not get past this and end up cancelling SFC. How am I to verify my OS files are correct and not corrupted if I can not run SFC?

I tried copying the DVD to a folder on my computer and keep getting error that GOTOUCH.EXE can not be copied because disk is full, copy protected or in use. None of which are true. This is Dell OEM install file. Why would I get the not able to copy error?

Most importantly, how can Dell suggest I verify my OS files like SFC does?

First, we are users helping users on this forum, not Dell employees.  If your intention with the post is to contact Dell you will have to call them.

HERE is something I found doing a google search.  See if it answers some of your questions.  It also says do not Slipstream SP3 as it will downgrade your MCE Version.

My XP MCE came on a CD, not a DVD from Dell for my Dimension E510.

Thanks for the link, it explained what happened a year ago when I  tried a repair and ended up with Win XP Pro. I never new why Home Media branding disappeared. I will stay away from slipstreaming MC. Thanks,

My intention was simply to ask this forum first because people here are far more knowledgable about Dell computers and OS than I am. I had an earlier experience with paid Dell support and do not wish to go that painful, expensive route unless I absolutely had to. I have no idea who mans this forum, but appreciate all feed back as I have been helped several times here in the past. So thank you all for contributing and making this forum continue. So when I said "how can Dell suggest..." I was thinking I was tapping into the vast Dell knowledge base, not Dell itself. I probably would not get any support from Dell itself other than paid support offer, so this forum is important to me.

I can only assume Microsoft supplies CDs and Dell created the DVD on their own.  Everyone talks about slip streaming from cds, no one talks from a DVD, so I assume the DVD was a Dell creation and does not work with changing it in any way. I am fine with going back to SP2, but just need assurances I can do a reinstall on top of what I have (SP3) when problems like I experienced arise. I will suffer thru the updates if need be. Not sure why SFC will not work completely or how to verify my OS files are correct.

Haven't we discussed this with you in an earlier thread?

The files on the optical disk (SP2) are older than the files on the hard drive (SP3) so SFC is unable to verify that the files on the hard drive are correct because it has nothing to compare them with.

Did you try requesting a replacement Windows disk from Dell (assuming you're in the US) which -hopefully- will have SP3 on it?

Maybe an earlier thread from over a year ago when I encountered a similar if not the same situation. I was asking again now hoping that with the passing year, new developments and experiences would be available and I could benefit from that instead of year old info. At that time I did get a DVD from Dell that had Win XP HMC v2005 SP2 on it. I seriously doubt there is a SP3 available, but no, I did not check with Dell again.

My original DVD was Win XP HMC v2002. I used the 2005 DVD but my login screens still show HMC 2002 on them. Hopefully this is not an issue. Bu I still dont know how to ensure my OS files are correct.

The earlier post a year ago was under another login name, which I can no longer log into. The previous post you are referring to was what started me on this road because  my Restore aborted and I was left in an unbootable, BSOD state. I have since cleaned that up and am now trying to determine how to know if my OS files are ok as I can no longer frun SFC. So my original questions, I dont think were addressed so I am asking again.
