well it was more of the page timing out. It starts scanning the website to see what is needed download wise. But it gets to about 33% and then stops. I forget what hte error is. But that I look at as just a symptom of a bigger problem. I am able to connect via the home install via the same router and wireless router and even directly and able to scan and start download no problems. Not sure what to do. I can see why the oem version doesnt work in a clean install. The only thing I havent attempeted to to try an upgrade of home with the oem. Not sure I can do that though. What do yout hink?
I have no problem connecting to other sites at all except the microsite.. The problem is that with the clean install of xp pro. I cannot access the net via my router(s) either on a wireless or wired means. Only way is a direct connect via the modem. Even with that it should be problematic with any sites including the microsite? My main problem is why i cant connect at all via my routers. It is a ery strange situation when i have the service pack1 and the hotfix rollup packages installed. I am contemplating another clean install as a dual boot again to see if the third time is the charm. I even added that fix for problems with wireless wpa connections and that doesnt help either. I am def at a loss. I emailed dell directly but I am sure they wont be able ot help either.
Are you able to connect to other Web sites without difficulty? If not, perhaps simply reinstalling Internet Explorer (procedure
here might resolve the problem.
Can you reach external networks via "tracert" or "ping"? Does the output of "
ipconfig /all" produce the results you'd expect, based on what you see from the XP Home OS installation?
What I'm wondering is whether this is a connectivity issue or a browser issue.
OEM is
Original
Equipment
Manufacturer. An OEM operating system is normally sold with a computer although some discount outlets will sell them with no hardware or something as small as a screw. The operating system itself is no different from a standard retail version except that it does not include any technical support nor printed documentation.

You didn't say whether or not you received any errors from the Windows Update site or what they were, but perhaps the information here can help.
