XP SP2 install problems

Question

I'm trying to run the install for XP sp2 but after the wizard does its backup I get a message 'Failed to install catalog files' and the wizard stops the installation. Any help?

Disable any and all anti-virus or other malware software before trying the SP2 installation.

When you say disable, you are talking about just stopping it from running while I'm doing the SP2 install, correct? Not uninstall  Norton Anti-virus or SpySweeper right?

Correct.  Temporarily stop the application from running.  You don't need to uninstall it.

Is this your first attempt to install SP2 on this system?  If so, have you checked on www.microsoft.com/Windows/catalog to see if your system is capable of supporting SP2?
