XP SYSTEM RESTORE FAILURE

I loaded Pinnacle Instant CD/DVD onto my computer (Dimension 4500 / XP) and it crashed the system (blue screen with warning message similar to 'system has shutdown to protect from incompatible hardware/software; remove any recently installed software/hardware').  I did not worry because I had created 2 X System Restore points prior to loading software.  On removing Pinnacle software the system had to remove approx 6 shared files that it advised should not effect system and recommended file removal.  I tried to restore my computer but both restore points failed!  My cam corder (JVC GR-DX95EK) driver CD is now not loading properly resulting in JPEG files not being transferred correctly to my computer.  All other software/hardware, at this time, seems OK.  Is there a work arround to make the restore points work or is the only solution to re-install Windows XPdrivers/software again?

Not sure if this will work but... Install the Pinnacle sw again and set a RP if you can/uninstall sw but leave all shared files this time/reboot.

If this doesn't work try the command from Start/Run

sfc /scannow (PS note space)

Restore is not reliable program. If you're using as a back-up you should consider something else.

You can turn it off from Control Panel > System > and
then> re-boot and it will purge it's file. Then re-boot, turn> it back on.

And try this if the above does not work.

1. Put the in the Windows XP CD
2. Click Start , Run
3. Type  the following then OK

rundll32.exe advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection
C:\Windows\Inf\sr.inf

Or if you don't have a XP CD

You can also open Windows Explorer, go to
C:\Windows\Inf folder and right-click sr.inf (Then
Install)
