Optiplex GX280, because this model does not support windows7.
The GX280 supports Windows 7, but there is no Windows 7 driver available for the onboard video because the onboard video hardware does not support certain features needed by the Windows 7 'Aero' user interface. You can get around this easily by installing a discrete video card like the budget-priced PowerColor 5450.
It may be that there is no printer driver available, however. The fact that many printer manufacturers did not provide Vista and 7 drivers for their products was a scandal back in the day; HP was especially notorious. May we ask the model of the printer?
Hi rdunnill I was searching for a solution to my non-functioning "on motherboard" video adapter. The fellow who sold me my Dell GX280 refurb did a great job in rebuilding the GX280, except that he never told me why the onboard video was not used and you answered that question, thanks.
The current video adapter is running off of a small card on the ePCI slot and works fine.
My question is, If I disable the "AERO" feature, would that free up things so I could put a second monitor on the motherboard" video adapter?
If disabling AERO is no help, can I use a Matrox Dual Video Card in the ePCI slot?
Any feedback is greaty appreciated, Riccles
PS I have a Mid-Size Dell Horizontal GX 280 Desktop with a 150 GB IDE Hard Drive, a SATA DVD Burner, 2 Gig of Memory, Windows 7 Ultimate, a crowded case and a good running old HP DeskJet printer system.
I had the same problem & could only get a 800x600 display but installed the driver recommended by NATAKUC4 (Phillip Yip) & it has worked like a charm. Thank you very much for the help.

Assuming you have the onboard video install the following driver it should give your video basic functionality on Windows 7:
Intel GM915 Driver from HP

The Windows 7 Audio driver for the G280 is Dell R105155 . It will fight you, then give up.. Keep trying and it will work!
