XPS 15Z dell datasafe restoration problem

I was able to restore the laptop through the datasafe local restore however I cannot update windows and other applications after the restoration.  Some of the MS update kept on failing to update even other applications like office and FA could not be updated.

Hi Dell 15z,

Did you restore the system back to its factory state using the recovery partition or did you create the image of your system on a disk and restored the system using it? Please share the error message while trying to perform windows updates and application updates.

I believe your system has Windows 7 installed. Run Ms Fix it on your system and see if that makes a difference. Here is the link: http://bit.ly/p8o3rK

Hi Vikram

I tried the link however it said that the troubleshooter is temporarily unavailable with [code 800B0003].

The update process stops because the windows installer cannot find the installation packages. It says the feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable, it is looking for *.msi file/s and is asking me to locate them.  I canceled the existing installation package and it proceeded to the next one. Out of 12 it said some updates were not installed and 10 were successful and returned codes 64C & 66A.  After restart none were actually installed and it goes back to where it started.

Hope this clarifies it a bit.

Regards,

Jeff

Hi Jeff,

Thank you for the reply. I would like to know how did you restore the system? Did you restore the system back to its factory state using the recovery partition or did you create the image of your system on a disk and restored the system using it? Are you getting any error message while performing the Windows updates? You can run the diagnostics on your system to check the hardware functionality:

  • Restart your system and keep tapping 'F12' as soon as the Dell logo appears.
  • Highlight 'Diagnostics' using up/down arrow keys and press enter.

Please let me know if you get any error code/message.

In case the diagnostics pass, may try disable the firewall on your system and try performing Windows update again.

Keep me posted. Please reply for any further questions.

Hi Vikram,

I restored the system back to its factory state and updated it all the way back to the present condition with the applications.  The problem revealed itself when i tried to uninstall some applications no longer relevant to me.  It is looking for the installation modules for it to uninstall thus it also cannot update some of them.

I tried the solutions you mentioned and even stopped my antivirus application but it still not able to find the installation files.

Regards,

Hi Jeff,

Thank you for the reply. I will recommend you to run system file checker tool to troubleshoot missing or corrupted system files. Here is the link: http://bit.ly/70gbQ

Note: Make sure you create a system restore point before performing the above steps. Here is the link: http://bit.ly/YEFi4r

In case issue still persists after running system file checker tool, reset the Windows installed Service. Here is the link: http://bit.ly/y6om5E
