Xp faxing problems

I have Windows XP, I conect to the internet thru cable modem, Normally I just run a phone line from my computer to my land line and fax ward documents with out any problems. Usually the fax console/moniter pops up to show the progress of my faxes being sent . Not only do my faxws not go out but the console/moniter does not pop up either. The Conexant 56Kdata/fax modem is what I assume makes this happen , and I have tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it to no avail. When I open up fax console and go to outbox my outgoing faxes are there with red circles w/X on them , when I open up one to properties it say s ( among other things) Extended Status: Fatal Error".
I have over the years had trouble off and on with my fax but usually can trouble shoot and repair myself, unfortunatly this problem has been 3 weeks now and I am at wits end. Please anyone HELP!

You might try this, go to Add/Remove programs/Windows Components

Remove "fax services", untick the box and hit next, reboot the PC and then go back and reinstall it.

Be sure you have your XP re-installation CD, you will need it to reinstall the fax service.

Please post your model of Dell, OS version, and model of Modem you have, so others can help you.

I use a motorola SB5100 cable modem
And computer came with connexant 56K DATA/FAx modem.

More information on my problem:

Recently I have not been able to send faxes. When I go to fax console and then outbox my fax attempts are there with red circle with x in it . Upon opening properties of a outbox fax the extended status reads "fatal Error" , along with JOB ID: 0x0201080a30b2a429, Broadcast ID:0x2001080a30b2a1b8. Not that this means anything but I figure I 'll give as much information as possible.

Did you try my suggestion?

If it were me, I would try another fax modem

1. In Contol panel, printers and faxes, right click on the fax icon, click properties, devices tab, Is your Fax modem listed? If so click on properties, check the settings (e.g. enable device to send, etc.).

2. In device manager (Right click My computer, click properties, hardware tab, click device manager), click on the + next to modems, double clkick on your fax modem to open its properties. I don't have a connexant, but a Broadcom, so not sure it will be the same on your system, but if there is a diagnostic tab you could check out the modem functions there.

3. In Services applet (click start, run, type services.msc, click OK or press enter), scroll down to fax. Check that the service is running, if not try starting it. For it to run it also requires several other services to be running: double click on Fax to open its properties, then Dependencies tab; the top box shows the services required for fax to run. Check each of those is running properly.
