Yellow Warning Triangle in Taskbar

I hope I'm putting this on the right board.  Have looked on several boards and can't find a fix for my problem. Hope someone can help.
I have been getting delayed write failed errors. I have chatted with two Dell techs, but they were ABSOLUTELY no help. One of them didn't even know what a delayed write failed was and I had to give him a link to this site for him to read.:smileymad: I think I figured out part of the problem. I took some of the Nero load on start up stuff out  and now I only get an occasional error.  But, when the yellow triangle comes up in the taskbar to tell you that you have a problem, there is suppose to be a balloon come up with the error so you will know what you are dealing with.  I get the triangle, but I don't get the balloon. I can hover my mouse over the triangle, but it does nothing. If you try to click on it, it goes away. My husband has his own screen on WinXP and he gets the triangle and the balloon, but on my screen I only get the triangle.  HELP!!!!
I had been having problems with my computer running badly and so slow I could hardly do anything, then some of the programs just started to not open. I talked with Dell support and they OF COURSE had me to reformat my HD. That was done on 1/31/05. Now, I have worse problems than I did before. Can anyone tell me how to resolve the delayed write failed and the no info window with an error alert? I will be ever so greatful since I have to teach the support techs how to find things. :smileymad: Dell needs to put the support back in the US where it belongs!

Are you using Neor to copy the data?  If so, you might want to make sure you have the most current version/update.  SP2 played pure heck with older versions of Nero.

Thanks for the response and yes I have the very latest version of Nero. V6.6, just purchased it, didn't like Roxio at all, so uninstalled it and bought Nero after using the trial version.

We all have to stop calling nuDELLi tech support. They are useless.Even if you can understand them through the thick Indian accent, they will probably tell you to re-format your hard drive, followed by re-installing your system, if they can't find an easy fix using their que cards.

My suggestion is to do a scandisk. Click My Computer>highlight your Cdrive and rightclick on it. Click properties, and then tools tab. Click fix errors box. The computer will tell you that you will have to re-boot. Close everything out and click re-start. When it does, the computer will perform a scan of the C drive and fix all the errors.

If that doesn't do it, I would uninstall Nero, and remove all traces of it from your computer via search. Then re-boot, and re-install Nero. If that does it, don't tweek Nero anymore.

Sorry I couldn't help. My limited expertize is exhausted. If you're still under warrantee, don't forget that Dell will send someone to your house if necessary.

twl845,

I have already done the scan disk & it found a zillion orphan files that it supposedly recovered, but I thought that orphan files were if you use Briefcase & I don't. Don't have a clue what that was all about. I am not having many delayed write failed errors now, but I sure would like to know why I don't have the yellow information box when I get an error. I was on my husbands site a little bit ago to see if he still gets them & yes he does, but I don't. I did go to the DellTweekz site that Denny Denham has & d/l the little program to turn the balloon on. Don't know if that was the right thing or not. Guess it didn't hurt anything.

You are so right about the support. I was so angry when the tech that I was chatting to didn't know as much as I did. But, my machine is still under warranty so they are gonna fix it. Everything I can read about delayed write failed is connected to hardware when you have exhausted all software avenues & I have.

I forgot to say in my earlier post that I was deleting emails when I got the last two DWF. Don't really know what that would have to do with anything, but it is usually when I am doing something with files or trying to save to cd. I have not been using Nero, been using WinXP to save to cd & still get the DWF with either one. Don't have a clue....Need some input though.

Thanks for the input.

how about system file checker ( for windows). I found that to work great at keeping the computer files straight. run "sfc /scannow" in the run box in start menu and let windows find any missing system files and repair them. then see hows it working.

You mentioned that you just reinstalled XP about 5 weeks ago and now have worse problems.  What worse problems could you be having with an install that fresh.  I have seen this error message to but only when I copy files over to a flash drive and sometimes remove the drive too fast.

Now having said all that, the research I have done on this seems to point issues towards Maxtor hard drives, and I hate that because I love Maxtor drives.  It would be worth your effort to search in that direction also.
