autochk program not found

Question

Symantec has provided me with a unique opportunity.  recently after a Systemworks upgrade, I began receiving a Load Failure message.  While using GoBack, I was unable to find a previous version that was clean.  At this point, someone tried to help me repair the MBR, but the current state of my E1705 is the message Autochk Program Not found and the blue screen stating: STOP: C000021a {Fatal System Error}   The Session Manager Initialization system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc000003a (0x00000000 0x00000000). The system has been shut down. Working with Dell Chat:  F8 - reboot in Safe Mode isn't working.  They even had me remove my memory chips and reinstall them, to no avail. Has anyone seen/heard of this?  My goal is to get my system back to a workable state without losing all my data or having to reinstall all programs.  That would be my last resort. Thanks!!

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=316503&sd=RMVP   But since safe mode is a no go, you may need to do a repair install described here, http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm#RI   a repair install does not touch your data, but if you have data that you cannot afford to lose, then mount the hard drive in another PC as a secondary drive, and copy the data off, before doing the repair install.

Have you tried the Recovery Console to repair the MBR? Boot to the xp cd, select the Recovery Console and type Chkdsk  /R at the prompt. If that completes successfully--takes a really long time--hours-- on big hard drives, type Fixboot to repair the MBR and reboot.

Ran chkdsk successfully, then fixboot.  Same problem.  Other suggestions?   Thanks!
