This is likely to be a hardware driver problem. Do you happen to have a Logitech mouse? If so, unintall the Logitech Mouseware software and go to their site to download an updated version.
If that does not apply, take a look at this site for some information on Stop Error messages:
Dell help and support which is on your computer says, if you are having a shut down problem it could be Norton AV or Macaffee. If you have either one, uninstall it and see if the problem dissappears. You can't just shut it off because of the drivers. I got the blue screen of death every time I shut down, after the shut down screen hung in there for ever. I uninstalled my Norton 2005 AV and the problem is fixed. Norton has become trash. I have installed Zone Alarm Internet Security, and the computer although still only 2 months old, runs faster and is more responsive.
