browser windows automatically open to websites i do not want to view
I have a Dell OptiPlex GX520 that runs Windows XP SP2 (3 Ghz, 1Gb RAM), IE 7 and Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.14. i have Trend Micro's PCCillin and SpyBot Search and Destroy -- both are up-to-date and recent scans complete.
When i open a browser window (either browser type), within 15 seconds another window will open to a website i didn't ask for. The unwanted sites are usually some kind of search site, like Area Search, or Online Video Search. i have scoured forums, Microsoft Knowledge base, etc and have not found an answer to my particular problem...answers have only been specific to the user who asked them...
The new windows open only if i already have a browser window open. also, they come faster if i key something in my search area or address line.
can anyone help me PLEASE?

You are infected with syware that your current antispyware software is not catching. (This is common, as the purveyors of spyware change their malware faster than any single program can keep up with.) I suggest that you go to the HijackThis forum, read the message in red at the top of the forum, then post a message in that forum describing your problem and containing a HijackThis log for the experts to look at. The forum is at:

You have spy/ad/malware.
Might start with the tutorial @

Fairly comprehensive without being overly technical. Links there to free removal & prevention tools as well.
