Hello!

OK, when you send the e-mail, you need to specify the SMTP server, which is often the one provided by your ISP. Some e-mail servers may require authentication to send messages, so I always use the SMTP of my ISP, because by using their internet, you are already authenticated. My ISP is The New AT&T, former BellSouth in Oxford, Mississippi. The server that I use is smtp.bellsouth.net. It is usually simple to figure out. Vista 3 Media has smtp.vista3media.com. Simply put 'smtp.' before the web-site address of your ISP. Tell me if this works.

Eugene

Well it is a beta version, full of bugs.

Do you have any 3rd party firewall or security software installed?

If you have AV software, turn off email scanning, see if it works.

I do not have a 3TH party fire wall just windows and I every turned it off.
I also have disabled my antivirus before I start my email program. Windows live is the email program with windows Vista. Like I was saying it worked for about a month stooped about 3 days ago. I have even tried to use system restore to go back to a point when it was working, that did not help either. My computer is new.

When I did a search of the forum I found a lot of people have had the same problem. But I did not see any of the others that got it fixed. That is why I was thinking it may be a problem on Dell's end. My computer has had problems out of the box. Dell has replaced the motherboard 2 times and replaced my computer when they was unable to get it to work. Email worked for about month just great and stopped sending about 3 days ago.

Does anyone know for a 3TH party email program that you can send email with that will work with windows Vista? I am starting to dislike windows vista a lot ;-[

Thanks for your time
Walter

Hi Walter,

Just joined the forum and seen your message. We had (and still have!!!!) the same problem as you.  New Dell computer with Vista pre-installed, email worked fine at first, then on 3rd June it all went wrong.  Is your ISP Tiscali?  We have been in constant email contact (and occasionally on the phone) since then and the problem is still not resolved.  I'm sure the problem was caused by Tiscali rather than Vista or Dell.  I'd like to know if your problems have now been resolved or are you still waiting too?!

"Windows live is the email program with windows Vista"

No, Windows Mail is what comes with Vista, Windows Live Mail is an add on email client from Microsoft.

Just wanted to clairify.

Ok it is windows mail my mistake. The problem is with Vista not Dell.

I called Microsoft support it cost me $35 just to talk to them.

Here is what I found out.

“Microsoft windows mail has a known problem that allows a hacker to take

advantage of.  In this case a hacker has made a worm that attacks windows mail

and disables windows mail from sending email. Microsoft hopes to get a patch out for this

sometime this year. [ They are in no hurry from what I could understand]

Now here is the how the Microsoft tech that I had to pay $35 to talk to told me to do to fix

Microsoft windows mail. He said, “Format my hard drive and reinstall windows Vista

and hope I  do not get the worm again before the patch comes out.”

So for $35 I was told Microsoft know there is a problem and basically does no care.

And to format my hard drive and reinstall windows Vista. :-[

Hope this helps some of you others

Do not waste your money to talk to a Microsoft tech as I did

Walter

Lousy bums.

You might try this forum http://www.dellcommunity.com/supportforums/board?board.id=si_hijack, read the RED link at the top before posting your log, the members over there are pretty good at what they do.

Another solution you may want to consider is, dump  Windows Mail, download the now non-beta version of "Windows Live Mail" and forget how lousy it's been.

I did this today and have never been happier with email.  The only part I don't understand is why they put such a handicapped version of email in Vista!

The version I downloaded is Version 12.0.1184 and I think it was current at that time.  If you are unfamiliar with this program, it is similiar to Outlook Express and setting up is a snap.

I do believe you have to have Windows Hotmail with this, but not for sure.

"download the now non-beta version of "Windows Live Mail"

No such thing, it is still beta.

12.0.11.84 is beta and has known bugs
