changing C:documents and settings to D: documents and settings

hi,
i'm seeking help again.
by default, all users accounts are saved on C drive or the the drive where the O/S is install in the documents and settings folder.
is there a way to move the documents and settings to another drive for example D drive. if it cant be done then is there a way to save your desktop folder to D drive?:smileysad:

yes it is possible see u cannot copy and drag the folder but u can create a new folder in D: and name it as document and settinf or watever u want and then u can copy all the files or folders under the C:\documents and settings and paste it in the D; cuz wat u need is the data i assume..so jus copy the data from document and setting and paste it in the D; newhere

It's not going to just let you copy it. The NTFS permissions won't give the user access to some of the things in there, especially since some of the files are open to ONLY the operating system.

And please, type clearly so we can all understand...

Rite, we can move my documents to any other drive. as for moving the documents and setting from C drive to another drive, i have yet to get an answer.

Someone suggested using Tweak UI from powertoys for XP. I tried that. What tweak UI allows u to do is copy the file to another drive. say u copied your desktop folder which is originally in C drive/ drive in which you have your operating system to say D Drive. it can be done but if u make changes to your desktop it does not save the changes to D drive. Changes are still in C drive.

so i guess what tweak UI does is the same as creating a folder. change the name of the folder, then save the contents to the new folder. Only GOOD thing is with TweakUI you dont have create, change the name then save the contents of the folder.

hope this is clear enough to understand. i sometimes have the tendecy to even confuse myself :smileyvery-happy:

But as the article states:

Microsoft strongly recommends against renaming any system folder. System failure or an unstable computer might result if you rename system folders. Back up your computer before you use the information in this article.

You nay find that apps that use the documents and settings folder to store user specific information  will get confused.

Why do you want to move the documents and settings\Username folders for users?

As has been said, you can move the My documents folder, which is really the only one worth moving. You can back up cookiesand favorites in IE.
