difficulty installing new drivers on inspiron 1525 after OS installation
I have an Inspiron 1525 which had a corrupted hard drive, I replaced the hard drive and installed theVista operating systems CD that came with the computer, I also installed the drivers and utilities CD( which was labeled reinstalling dell webcam manager), I apparently need more drivers installed as I have no internet access. Can I download the drivers onto a flash drive on my other lap top then install them on my inspiron 1525? Please help! I need this computer back up and running! Thanks..

Try tapping Fn and F2 (to see if Wireless is switched on or off). When network is listed for your service tag no wireless is listed just your ethernet. So still not sure what one is yours. So try installing all 4 (3 will fail and one will work)
• Dell 1395 (R174292)
• Dell 1390 (R173590)
• Intel 3495 (R164259)
• Dell Wireless 400 USB (R167729)
Note for installing the drivers:
Running the .exe file Rxxxxxx should extract the driver to C:\Dell\Drivers\Rxxxxxx and then run the installer automatically. If no installer runs, you will need to navigate to this folder and click on any setup.exe files.
We will take for example R284334 the chipset driver for my XPS 8300:
Double clicking the file, you should get a run prompt select yes.
Select Continue
Select Ok
Select Ok. At this stage the setup should start and you should start the installation. If it does not the driver is not installed. In my XPS 8300 (and I suspect many other systems) the installers do not automatically run. Therefore in this case I have to go to C:\Dell\Drivers\R284334 (you will have to go to the number of your driver) and click setup.
Accept the UAC prompt and install via the setup program.
Usually a series of clicking next, next, finish and then rebooting. I usually tell it not to reboot until I install all the drivers it is faster this way and always worked for me however it is probably best to reboot when prompted.

Thanks Rick, but I dont have those drivers, I see them on the dell web site, but since my computer isnt able to hook up with the internet I cant download them, is it possible to download from another computer first then install them on my computer? Thanks!

cath102,
Yes, you can download them on another computer. Install the notebook system utility and the chipset drivers. The computer should then be able to connect with the ethernet cable. You can then download and install them on the 1525.
Please read...
How to by-pass the Dell Download Manager and use Internet Explorer and download the drivers in your browser.

cath102,
When you installed the operating system, did you install the notebook system utility and the chipset drivers first? If not, the rest of the drivers will fail to install How to Download and Install Drivers in the Correct Order
You should be able to start with the notebook system utility and the chipset drivers, then follow the order. Things should start working.

okay, I was able to install all the drivers recommended for the computer, but I am still not getting a wireless option to connect to internet. Just broadband, it says "the wireless network connection on this computer is not working properly"

I tried to put them in order, but the list I got when I put my service tag #, was a little different from the drivers listed above. I did put the chip set in first, here is the list of drivers I downloaded from the website, I put them in the order that most sounded like the order given above

cath102,
Download and install, in this order...
Dell System Software , Intel Mobile Chipset and Ricoh R5C833
Then install...
Marvell 88E80XX 10/100 Ethernet Controller
Go to Dell Warranty Status enter your service tag number and click on origional configuration. Look to see which wireless adapter you have installed, then get the drivers fromDrivers & Downloads
The install Dell QuickSet
You should be able to get online to download and install the rest of the drivers.

Did you install the drivers in the correct order or did you skip that part?

What wireless card do you have? Go to Device Manager (right-click Computer, Manage), right-click on wireless networking device, Properties, Details tab, change dropdown to Hardware Ids. What is the VEN and DEV ID's.

Sorry for the delay, had to work for two days, no time to work on this! Well I downloaded the above, in that order, still not able to get a wireless connection, or hook up to the internet via ethernet, not sure if this helps but my internet is att using 2wire router. When I clilck on add a wireless connection, it says that no wireless connections were found, If I want to add one, use a flash drive...

also meant to add I tried to look up my wireless card as stated above, I dont really get a choice for wireless networking devices, there is a broadcom 802.11n network adapter, and Marvell Yukon fast ethernet controller, I did have difficulty figuring out which network adapter my computer uses from the original configurations as it was very cryptic to me... here is what I got when I put in my service tag..

Your link shows an empty page (no Service Tag). Just copy/paste the page contents or use Device Manager as instructed earlier.
