The Computer  belongs to my xwife.  She has a problem with leaving well enough alone.  She changed password while having a few  and didn't write it down.  Now when She starts up She gets a logon window and can get passed it because She has incorrect password.  Back to my original question  thanks for the input..

I had no idea what your original question was since it was not defined in your post. Now that it has been defined, try this:

Log on to Windows in Safe Mode. At the Welcome screen press Ctrl-Alt-Delete twice. At the sign-in screen enter Administrator and leave the password blank. If you are not able to log on using a blank password, the program here can set it to blank.

Once you are logged on, go to Start|Control Panel|User Accounts and change/eliminate the forgotten password.
