error 1906

hi, i recnetly posted a question about an error i recieve on XP when trying to install software. the entire message states:

Error 1906. Failed to cache package C:\WINDOWS\Installer\71435.msi. Error -2147286775. Contact your support personel

the official listing of the windows website doesnt really give much information about it, or really explain how to fix it. if anyone has any knowledge about the subject i would really appreciate it.

That error message is a microsoft installer (msi) service error. You may have an XP system file error so try running a system file check.

click start>run
type in: sfc /scannow
(space between sfc and /)
click ok

sfc will check and replace any missing/damaged XP system files. It may ask for your XP CD. When it's done:
click start>run
type in: services.msc
click ok

Look on the list that opens for MSIServer and make sure its properties are set to 'manual'.

Then try the install again.
