faulting module msvcr71.dll

I have a new dell desktop with XP and all updates with IE 6 that worked fine but lately when I am on the internet or my I get a message that IE has encountered a problem and has to shut down.  If I go into the event manager I see the following message "Faulting application iexplore.exe, version 6.0.2900.2180, faulting module msvcr71.dll, version 7.10.3052.4, fault address 0x000017fb."  next to the red X error.   Can anyone help?

Thank you for your reply--I am leary of any downloads that claim to fix registry things.  Do you have any idea how this is now just occuring?  I have not added or deleted any programs and put on only the auto updates.

Sorry, haven't got a clue. Sometimes files get corrupted for no apparent reason. One of the many mysteries of maintaining computers.

I've not had your particular problem and as such have not applied any "fix". So I really can't recommend or advise against any particular solution. Possibly someone else who has resolved this issue can jump in.

So you would reccomend use the "Fix" on the link you sent above?

You could also run System File Check too; you might get prompted for the Windows reinstall disk though so have it handy.
Personally, I'd try that before running a registry repair program....    However I've never experienced your particular problem so I'm not 100% sure.....

IT IS FIXED!!  Just so all can maybe benefit, after hours of upgrading to IE7, back to IE6, scanning, managing add-on's, I upgraded my Adobe Acrobat to the 8.1 version and it was all fixed.  Thanks all for your suggestions. :smileyvery-happy:
