installing Windows XP on an Inspiron 1525

I have been using Dell products since the 386's

I purchased this machine the beginning of March, before Dell started advertising

     Inspirons with XP

The salesman assured me I could "dual Boot"

When I called Technical support three weeks later to ask about Drivers I was told

the Warranty would be voided if I installed XP and there were no drivers

Does anyone have a solution to this problem? Nice machine terrible OS

i like vista but that is my .02..

If there are no drivers on the Dell support drivers and downloads  for XP then you will have to go out on the web and find them for youself..

What Dell told you is partialy correct and i am not totally convinced that it would in a dual boot as you would still have the orginal Os installed..

Normally when you change the OS from the shipping version you will forefit your software warrenty, you hardware warrenty would still be in force and good...

You misunderstood what the tech said or he was incorrect. The hardware is always covered for the life of the warranty no matter what operating system or software you install. It is the software and operating system that are no longer covered. That's no big deal, since software is not covered under the warranty anyway--except for the first few weeks.

PS You should edit your post to change XP to Vista.

1 year on and 1 service pack later and my main applications still don't work with Vista. :smileymad:

I think I'll leave Vista hit another Service Pack before I use it if I ever switch to it.

The best thing for you to do is format your Vista partition, and install XP on that partition if you don't want to use Vista. You'll have to find drivers for the whole system yourself though. They're not too hard to find - my XPS M1530 came with Vista and the 1st thing I did was install XP alongside Vista.
