installing xp

I have had problems installing windows xp on a dell dimension 4400.  I have repartitioned the hard drive and setup begins.  It will get 10% through the setup and an error message will pop up and say that a file cannot be copied.  I hit return to retry to copy and doesn't work.  It says that if the files to be copied are not, then xp won't work correctly.  I get that with several files.  I have tried 2 xp disks and they both give the same error.  I'm stuck and am not for sure where to go from here.  HELP!!!

Have you set the bios to boot from the CD? Strange things can happen if you try to run the reinstallation CD from withing Windows.

Forgetting to format the hard drive before starting installation can cause that problem in Win98. So can a scratch on the CD.

Make sure you follow the WinXP setup screens carefully.

Setting to boot to CD through the bios did no good.  I still get the files cannot copy error when I quick format and it still freezes when I do the full format.  Both ways should work.  What next???
