Hi Christine:

Java is software that enables certain types of website images content, typically java applets. Applets you have viewed with Java are stored (cached) in the javapi folder, but I believe this was only in earlier versions of Java, which are now obsolete and should be uninstalled. They represent security risks, as malicious files can be stored in this Java cache found in earlier versions.

You should open your Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs, and make sure the box at the top next to "Show updates" is checked. Scroll down to the Java entry. You should only see the latest (and most secure) version called Java(TM) 6 Update 6. Leave it alone.

If however, you see any Java versions with earlier numbers, you should click on them and uninstall them with the Remove button.

If indeed you only see the latest Java (6 Update6), then you can safely delete those images from your java cache by opening Control Panel and clicking on the Java Icon to open the Java Control Panel. Click on the General tab, then on the Settings button at the bottom, then on the Delete Files button. Put a check next to Applications and Applets>OK out.

Let us know what you find.
