javaw.exe

I'm about to go crazy here.  I'm trying to install a program from a CD.  I have been getting an error stating that javaw.exe has committed an error and it has to close.  Then I get a window asking if I want to send a report to Microsoft.  This is kind of important that I get this program installed.  Any ideas of how to fix this problem?  It will not let me do anything without the error dialog coming up.  Thanks.

suprdav,

The only thing I can suggest is that you may be able to resolve the problem by downloading a fresh copy of the Sun Java Runtime Environment, to replace a corrupted version. The download is available here.

Denny,

I downloaded a fresh copy of Java Runtime Environment and that didn't fix the problem.  Today I went further and reported the error to Microsoft.  Then I was sent to a website telling me that the problem is likely being caused by Norton Internet Security on my computer.  I don't have Norton or any of the Symantec products.  I really wish I could figure out what is causing this problem.  I'm to the point where I just want to reformat and start all over again.  What really bugs me is that this computer is just 3 weeks old.

What program is this? Some older software will not run on WinXP.

This is a brand new Dell computer that I have.  I just got it three weeks ago.  I don't imagine that there is any software on here that will not run with XP.  I don't know what program it is.  All I know is that the error says that javaw.exe has committed an error and must close.  I wonder if I take javaw.exe off and then reinstall, it will fix the problem.  I need to find out what it is first though.

You don't know what the program is, but it's important that you get it installed???? OK.

Ok, granted that was a stupid thing to say.  I'm really not an idiot.  I imagine that the program has something to do with Java since it happens everytime I pull up anything that runs Java.  I have downloaded the most recent copy of Java Runtime Environment and that didn't fix the problem.  I have done a Windows Update.  I even went in and removed javaw.exe and tried to install the program, still with no avail.  Like I said before, I think my final option will be to reformat the hard drive.
