learning to use dantz retrospect backup software
This question is concerning the dantz backup software that comes with the maxtor external hardrives that dell is offering as an assessory product , I was trying to learn how to use it by going to their tutorial and I looked at it for about three hours racking my brain until my eyes glazed over and still could not fantom it , its the the terminology they use , ..apparently these people have thier own language . If anyone out there is using this retrospect backup software , I would appreciate it if someone could explain to me how to back up my entire hardrive to a dvd or cd or external hardrive in just plain simple english that I could understand ( it seems like they are trying to confuse people on purpose... )
thanks

I have Retrospect 6.5. They do have their own terminology. It isn't the most user-friendly, but it is a smart way to backup. You don't have to have multiple backup sets, you can just have one and it has everything you need. It is easier than the manual makes it seem. Once you set up the script that it runs, you might never have to do too much else.
You have to choose between making "duplicates" or a "backup." The default script is Duplicate. A backup is more complete, it saves settings, and old versions of files. If a file is revised 5 times, the backup will have all five versions (potentially). The Duplicate only has the most recent version of each file. Then you create a "script" which is just a series of instructions telling it what to back up and where. Then you execute the script. The advantage is that you only define the steps once, and can repeat it over and over (the one-touch button executes the script that you create). I use the "backup" because you can restore everything, from the entire drive to an older version of a file, and you can also specify a point in time.

There is a pdf you can download to get rid of the annoying frames. Try the first link in the post above again, once you are on Dantz's website.
