I have a worse problem on a PC that says windows needs activation before you can log on and I just went through the activation telephone process.
First select the Telephone button. You need to select your country (United States) and you will get a toll free number to call. Sends you to India I think. Anyway you give them a long 42 or so number and they give you a 42 number activation code that you put into the activation wizard screen. Should work.
Once you are done copy the wpa.dbl and wpa.bak files in the c:/windows/system32 folder onto a floppy or a CD. The next time you need to activate because you reinstalled windows, boot in safe mode and simply copy these files back into the folder to avoid the 42 digit nonsense. It is suggested you rename the existing files wpadbl.new and wpabak.new before overwriting.
Does not solve my issue though. So I am looking for ideas also.
