Are you trying to open the program from shortcut link or from the Programs Menu? Sounds like a short cut link may be pointing to the wrong or no application.
I have tried opening it from both areas and both give me the same pop up screen saying that I have to install that disk. I didn't think Excel was something that I could "erase" or anything, do you know how this may have happened?
I thank all three of you for getting back to me so quickly. I am starting the reinstall Office XP, hopefully it works! Thank you all again for your speedy help, greatly appreciated!

What do you think I should do next?

dammer7,
You need to run the repair on Office.
Put the Office did the in the CD holder and let it spin.
Select the setup mode and select repair.
