need to disable PCI express to install XP pro

Hello everyone,
I purchased a dimension 9200 with vista, but thanks to Bill, vista is not compatible with lots of things, among others, digital tuners!!
So I need to install XP on it. I will make a double boot XP-Vista, but in order to install XP I need to disable the PCI express, since PCI express is only supported by XP SP2, and I got only the XP SP1.
So I need put a PCI video card and disable the PCI express controller. But I didn't find such an option in the BIOS. Can someone tell me how to disable it?
many thanks in advance

An alternative would be to create an XP SP2 disk by slipstreaming SP2 into your XP SP1 files. For that you need a burner and burning software such as Nero or Roxio to make the new CD after you have slipstreamed the files.

A convenient way to slipstream is  to use Autostreamer (free):

If you don't have the CD with SP2, you can get it from

or download the 267MB full SP2 file from:

(don't worry about the title: it is the download you need).

There are other ways to slipstream manually:

Also other free software that does it: nLite, RyanVM (google for those if you need them).

If you want to disable the PCIe video card from BIOS, just go to Video (you have to see AUTO selected) change it to Onboard/PEG and then use your integrated Video. Install your XP SP1 and you are ready to go...

Hello everyone, and thanks for your help.

JRosenfeld, I used autostreamer to make XPSP2 installation disc, and my blue screen error:

STOP 0x0000007E ...PCI.SYS ...

changed to

STOP 0x0000007B

A generic boot fail! thank you Bill again!

But I think the CD is missing the drivers for my hardware (dual core, ...), and I noticed the nLite programm can can include drivers onto the streamed XP CD.
But what do the drivers look like? are they ony .sys files? Can I get them directly from my vista installation CD?

Many thanks from your help again."

The XP CD does not have the chipset drivers. You need to install those after installing XP. Also best to download the latest drivers for your graphics card, sound card, etc.

Unfortunately, I can't find any downloads for the Dimension 9200 on the Dell download site.

According to the detailed specs, my understanding is that the Dimension 9200 has Intel P965 Express Chipset/ICH8DH. The latest chipset driver install utility is available from Intel

The release notes indicate that it is the right one for the P965 Express Chipset (among many others).

For the other hardware drivers, you could try the manufacturers' sites.

Or perhaps you should contact Dell (they are now offering the Dimension 9200 with XP, at least in the UK, so they should be able to sort things out for you).

I don't think you can just copy files from your Vista CD. The drivers need to be installed, which includes writing to the registry, not just getting the right files on your PC. Also, the Vista ones may not necessarily be compatible with XP.

thanks again for your help JRosenfeld. The problem is that it's an installer (.exe) file. If I execute it, it will install the drivers on my old PC I am using to produce my XPSP2 install CD. So how do I get the .INF files to include on my XPSP2 CD done with nLite?

I don't use nLite. There is a forum for nlite, you could try asking there.

or maybe the nlite guide would help:

But I thought you'd made your slipstreamed SP2 to install XP onto some partition? If so do that, then install the chipset drivers from within the installed XP.

I am using my old PC (a 500MHz) to splitsream and burn the XP SP2 install CD for then installing it onto my neu Dell 9200 which came with Vista. I recieved that new Dell configured with 2 disks in Raid0, and vista installed on the C: partition.
I order to install XP, I reduced (with the embedded tool in vista) the vista partition and prepared a new partition. Now with my XPSP2 CD I am hoping to install it onto that new partition, and finally configure the double boot with bootpro.
Unfortunately, the installation of XP fails when it starting windows after loadding all drivers from the install CD. The bluescreen STOP 0x0000007B....

So that's why I guess there is some driver missing to support Raid0, or chipset or another hardware. Since I did not found how to include drivers onto the XPSP2 cd, I used nLite.

Reading some forums on the net, most of the people used a physically different disk to install XP, removed the one with vista to install XP and then reconnected it to create the double boot under vista. Since I want to keep my Raid0, I cannot do that. do you think it may come from having a partition on the same disk as vista?

Thank you for taking time to help me.

I've downloaded the drivers from intel and found how to extract the files to a given location , and I included them in my XPSP2 install cd. An guess what: still this blue screen error!

I am out of ideas, sorry. I hope someone with experience of Raid (which I don't have) may come up with more suggestions.
PS one more thought, but I don't really know.

Maybe try disabling your PCI express graphics card (run in VGA mode) then try and install XP. if that works then on the XP partition install XP drivers for your PCI card.

Thank you for you help anyway.
And Dell support is getting on my nerves since they simply told me:
"Sorry but we only support the OS configuration that came with your system", so I may end up just sending this computer back to Dell, because Vista's compatibility is too poor.
