norton definitions corrupted-- HELP please

I ran live update and it says my virus definitrions are corrupted and can't update. I tried running the inteligent updater thing on symantec and it didn't work. I am now downloading the definitions manually but don't know if they will install properly either. I never had this problem before.. And I can't find any other solutions on symantec, I searched this board but only came up with posts from 2003, nothing recent about this problem. I have Norton system works 2006. Everthing else seems to work except the virus updates.
I tried the autofix tool-- live update is not up to date- NOT FIXED
and the manual download for the live update download page comes up page not found!
I tried scan at trend micro and it is sooo slow on dial up!! (no high speed even available for me)
Any help please?

All  I can offer is a way to remove all Norton products from your system as a last resort:

http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039?Open&src=con_ols_nam

I recently bought and installed NAV 2006 and removed it within the same hour. It slowed IE to a crawl at best. Sites wouldn't open, programs hung forever without opening, etc. I used the above link to remove it completely and rebooted at least two times to get everything back to normal. No Norton ever again.

If you need to uninstall Norton as above manually, here is the link:

Live update files can be downloaded from

the second download on that page (lusetup.exe) is the one you want

Virus definitions can be downloaded from

I think that if you update your Live update to the latest version (3.0.106) it should restore functionality.

Otherwise, try to install the latest virus update from your hard drive, that will probably correct any corruption in the definition files themselves as the package downloaded from that site is cumulative *as opposed to the incremental updates that you get through Live update).
