outlook express 6 font size

I posted a question a week or so ago, nobody had a fix, I guess. now is your chance,,, I cannot change the font size in compose in outlook 6.. I can change the style (like from Arial to Courier ) and change the color, but the size always comes back to 12. I can set it to 18, but on the first key stroke it returns to 12. I have reinstalled I.E. and that was not the cure. I even did a XP repair install, and had to call microsoft and reregister, before I could use it again. You guessed it that did not work,to fix the problem.

Font size 10 is the default for "Plain Text"  , does the window remain showing HTML format ( ie: shows Toolbar below Subject box.)

Yes, you can not change color or size unless you are in HTML. I don't use plain text, so I haven't noticed what size is there..

Thank you for your intrest... I can change the color and the style and they will stay as I select.. just the font size won't change, it stays a 12 .

I went in to the registry and changed it so i could down load I. E. from the microsoft web site. that made no joy.. then I used this,, rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132 %windir%\Inf\ie.inf-- and the XP cd to install I. E. , but that didn't fix it..

On the XP , I didn't format the c:drive, and I tried to follow the instrucions,, but I don't remeber what I did. I was trying to do a repair... but I can be a big dumbie,, sometimes...maybe it's dummy, what ever    fits ..                                      Trav

I realized that but you said 1st stroke changed to size 10 which is what is dose it you use "Format" button & select "Plain Text"  , it also looses color so as you didn't say it does I assume in remains in HTML.

Did you re-install IE from Microsoft or XP CD & did you disable already installed marking for OE 1st. ?

You said you also did an XP repair install & had to reregister with Microsoft.
So I assume you did a reinstallation of XP & not Repair using Windows Repair ( 2nd R ) on XP CD as you had to "reregister" (Activate).
Did you do a Clean Install. ? (delete existing partition 1st during reinstall)

http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/cleanxpinstall.html

or use this link & 1st Delete existing partition at step 5 for Clean instal
http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/windowsxp_sg_clean.asp

or this link & select XP Home or PRO with large pictures
http://www.windowsreinstall.com/

then get Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 SP1 from;
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/critical/ie6sp1/default.asp

I know you already downloaded IE 6 SP1 from Microsoft but perhaps you haven't done so after a Clean Install.

Gary, are you saying that on your computer(s), OE 6 does allow font size changes in Compose?  I ask because my friend's Dell-installed OE 6 and my self-installed OE 6 behave exactly as described by trav_mobile.

Thank you,gryjhnhpe,,

I have been trying to get away from doing a "clean install" because I have been transforming my old 8mm movies to CD disks. ( I put them on vhs tape then used dazzle to convert to digital, then to CD burner) and I have a lot of unedited movies on the hard drive, that I don't want to loose.. So I will put up with this little font thing. It's not a biggy, but I used to be able to change the font size. I know this because I have 6 childern and 14 grands , and I make birthday  e-cards  and send them. I would start out with large font like 18 to 24 and change the color for each letter.. That is how I found out about this problem.

I will save the imfo you posted. It looks like my style, so simple big dummies could not go wrong !!!! Thank you a bunch.. (that is more than a lot )     Trav

To frankphelps,,

If you read the reply above ( how could you not) you will see that I was able to change font size at one time. I have had this Dell for about 2 years. The only thing I can think of is maybe one of microsoft repair downloads made the change.. Or I could have messed it up,, too.. I found "Happy Birthday" on an old e-mail I sent to my granddaughter back in Feb. It had font of 18, ??

I am not to worried about this,, but it is strange....     Trav

Yes you can change default Font Size for HTML in Tools > Options > Compose , Font Settings   & during "Create Mail"  Format HTML  , Toolbar below Subject.

I can only suggest you download another FREE Email Programs with similar features to OE & try it.

Trav:   Actually, I posted my question about a half hour before your clarification, so I hadn't read it .  The only way I've found to get larger size is to use a "Heading" from the "Paragraph Style" drop down menu in the Format bar.

Gary:  I've tried those steps and my OE goes through the motions, even indicates a larger size on the Format bar.  But as Trav says, it reverts to 12 immediately on striking a key.  Also as Trav says, just a curious nuisance that I'll live with.  I don't think my friend or I have ever been able to change the font size.

Trav:

I may have found something useful relative to our question about font size control in OE 6.  Try this:

Open Internet Explorer, Click Tools - Internet Options

     Under General Tab, click Accessibility.

As appropriate, uncheck:  Ignore colors specified on Web Pages

Ignore font styles specified on Web Pages

Ignore font sizes specified on Web Pages

OK, OK, then reboot.  Set your desired default size in OE - Tools - Options - Compose.  Give it a shot.  It appears to work for me.
