outlook sending error

Hi!

When trying to send emails in Outlook 2002 I get an error that reads:"sending and recieving error (0x800ccc78) unable to send the message.  Please verify the email address in your account properties.  The server responded: 530 Authentication required.

I am using SBC DSL and already called them.  They indicate that everything is correct with my settings.  They said that it might be a problem with Outlook comunicating with the server.

I am running Windows XP.  I think that's all the info that I can come up with.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you!

Something is wrong with your SMTP settings in Outlook Email Accts. Make sure you don't have a slight typo in your account settings. Also make sure you don't have Logon on using Secure Password Authentication checked. (SPA) Almost no one uses SPA. Use the Test settings button to find errors. Go to Email Accts, Your Acct, Change, More Settings. Check your ISP's web site to verify all the settings.

Thanks Mary.  I tried all of the options that you suggested and they are correct.  In fact, I started Outlook Express, which I have never used before and it seemed to work fine with the configuration I have currently.  I can't really use Express for work applications, but I wanted to see if it would work and it does.  Can you think of anything else that I could try?  I started up regular Outlook after sending a few emails from Express and I get the same error message. Thanks again!

John
