powerpoint viewer 2003

I downloaded pp viewer 2003. when I try to open a powerpoint slide show file i get the error (file does not have a program associated with it) Tried going to list of file types under pps and then show, set defaults and typed in the complete path. Also tried many other fixes but none have worked. checked in the registry under HKCR\powerpoint viewer.slideshow.11 and under shell there are 2 folders , print and show . On my other PC running the same system under shell there are 3 folders, open, print, show. Could it be  because the open folder(command) is missing in the registy? If so is there a way to add the "open" in the  registry ? I do not microsoft office installed on either pc but the viewer works on the compaq. Tried reinstalling the veiwer - same problem !

Have you tried right clicking on the pps file and choose "open" or "open with" or are these missing?

Does it look like this? tick select a program from a list, hit OK, Cannotopenfile.jpg picture by mombodog

look for power point and highlight, or browse to the power point executable. Be sure to tick "always use selected program. Hit OK

All I can suggest is to remove power point viewer 2003, download the newer program, save it to a folder of choice, right click on ppviewer.exe and select properties, go to compatibility tab, tick the boxes like the picture, hit OK, now execute the file to install PPV.
