printer s/w install cannot access registry

Question

Running XP on  6000 and am trying to install HP4890 Image Zone s/w.  Install fails with msg that the installer cannot access this registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software.  I have a number of other programs and other HP devices already installed.  I've used a regisry cleanup program to no avail... and have looked at the COM configuration properties with dcomcnfg and do not see any permissions set incorrectly for my user name.  Help.

Right click on the installer for that program and select Run As, then select administrator

Sounds like a good idea; however, the setup program is on a CD and I can't run it from there.  My thought was that I needed to tell it that I am an account with adm priv.  Maybe something is broken? Thanks for your last answer...any other suggestions?

You can copy the contents of the CD to a folder and do as I suggested.

Tried to run setup ad adm from the s/w copied from CD to a Directory; however I did not set a adm password (that I can remember) so now I need to change the adm password.  I see some solutions on forum that don't seem too easy.  Can you suggest the best solution?
