"Common Language Runtime Error" when I log onto Windows XP
Whenever I log onto Windows I get this error message:
NotifyAlert.exe - Common Language Runtime Debugging Services
Application has generated an exception that could not be handled.
Process id=0xdc0 (3520), Thread id=0xdfc (3580).
click OK to terminate the application.
Click CANCEL to debug the application.
Clicking "OK" makes the message repeat, while clicking "CANCEL" brings up this window:
Registered JIT debugger is not available. An attempt to launch a JIT debugger with the following command
resulted in an error code of 0x2 (2). Please check computer settings.
cordbg.exe !a 0xdc0
Click on Retry to have the process wait while attaching a debugger manually.
Click on Cancel to abort the JIT cegub request.
Does anyone know why this keeps coming up when I log in and every so often while I'm logged in? Thanks in advance :)

There are two possible solutions to this (there may be more):
1. Go to Windows Update and make sure you have the most recent updates to .NET Framework installed. If you see any updates available for the .NET application (they'll show up in the secondary "Windows XP" category, rather than in Critical Updates), install them, and see if the problem disappears. You may have to reboot the system first.
2. If that doesn't work, uninstall the Dell Support applications, and see if that resolves the issue. This will not affect your ability to review support documents for your system, or to get assistance with any other issue.

In case you didn't have any luck with your first Forum response (resolution), please retype your error message in the Forum search window and look for my Forum entry by chete9. It really worked! Good luck!

My problem _seems_ to be associated with my SETI@Home computations which means that the computer may go online 7 or 8 times a day without my intervention. When the message appeared this morning, I checked the alerts and did find a new alert about the 'sasser' worm.
Mystified!
