"Missing Operating System" !!!!!??????

did anyone got this error message "Missing Operating System" after updating or installing any third party software (drivers, apps, etc...) and then you restart the system....if anyone has this problem y is this happening in vista?????? is there a solution for this????

  1. Restart the computer.
  2. Tap the key during startup until the Windows Advanced Options menu appears.

    NOTE: If the Windows Advanced Options menu does not appear, restart the computer, and try again.
  3. Press the key until Repair Your Computer is highlighted, and press the  key.
    The System Recovery Options window appears.
  4. Click to select your language, and click Next.
  5. Log in as a user with administrative rights, and click OK.
    The Windows Vista Recovery Environment appears.
  6. From the Choose a recovery tool menu, click Startup Repair.
    Startup Repair  proceeds to check the system for issues and resolve them.
  7. Once completed, click Finish.
  8. Click Restart.

I had this problem as well. Thanks for the solution, techmad. I'm now much more careful of installing drivers in Vista when the hardware works fine without them !

Hi sounds like everyone has the same problem only i cant use the information you listed because even that wont load ? I have tried several times and been on the phone to tech support which they cant even help me other than replacing this new computer . any other suggestions or helpful info ? woke up and my new windows vista start menu was gone and wont reload nor will the restart recovery load ?
