'Your Computer Cannot Run This Operating System'

Question

I have a Dell XPS M1210 with Windows XP installed. I've bought vista home premuim which, after running various compatibility tests, is perfectly fine for my computer, it's the reccomended version. Whenever I insert the disc I get the message in the title of this thread. The disc os completely real and official, my laptop is fine. You probably need a BIOS update to correct the issue if anything else. I have seen some machines that will not install unless you have the reccomended bios update

Thanks very much Chas, I installed the BIOS update for my XPS M1210 but the sam message still appears when I attempt to install Vista. Any more suggestions?

FahdGhauri Did you buy a full version of Vista or the upgrade.

You must start the install from within XP. Do not boot to the vista dvd. Start xp the normal way and run the setup program on the vista dvd.

Hi Are you sure that XP has all it's updates and is completely Malware free

Go here http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en

and click express to download and install critical updates.

How long have you had this Computer.

Chas: The XP is however it is when you buy the laptop. I haven't downloaded anything for it, as I say I'm not computer savvy at all. Thanks, Fahd.

Chas - The Vista is definately full, I made sure it was when it failed to work the first time. It isn't an upgrade. Mary - Sorry I'm not quite sure what you mean. I'm a bit of an idiot when it comes to computers. I've just turned on my laptop, logged into my user and inserted the disc.
