re-installing Norton Internet Security 2004
Greetings,
I recently (within the last week) received a new I9100. Within the course of installing personal software on the machine, I installed software which interfered with Norton Anti Virus. I was able to remove the rogue software successfully, however Norton Anti Virus was corrupted. I should note here that the software is part of the Norton Internet Security 2004 package. The only recourse was to uninstall and re-install the software. Unfortunately, I am unable to locate the package for re-install. It is not included on the Dell Applications CD. I was able to salvage Norton Internet Firewall, however I cannot re-install Norton Anti Virus. When using the windows Add/remove programs options, the installer is searching for a file called d:\symsetup.exe. I cannot locate this file on the Hard drive, or on any of the CDs provided with my system.
If anyone has any info on this, please let me know... Thanks

First let me begin by telling you that it is a very tough task and non-recommended to reinstall norton.
The associations of norton with the system are so vast that it may require a reinstall of the operating system to avoid further corruption issues.
What you have to try is a manual uninstall of norton Antivirus
You do that by using the search string "manual uninstall" [with or without quotes]
The biggest problem is cleaning up the registry properly,
you can download
Jv16 Tools and run a search for norton and then symantec in your registry and carefully deleting entries.
Ofcourse back up your registry before doing this.
hope this helps

will0527,
Yes I did find where you could download the file in a zip or exe. However it is in Japanese . I could not find the file in the Symantec U.S. I would call Dell and ask them first where the file is located on your System restore disk. This is where I found the Japanese file here. Scroll down the page and you will see the 2 files. You can click on them to download. However I don't know if they will work since they are in a different language so use at your on risk. I would choose to call Dell first if I was in your shoes. One other thing that I forgot to add is when you click on the link I posted click cancel when it trys to load and the page will load and you will see the files.
Best regards,
HardyHar
