You will have to edit the registry to get rid of any left over RP entries.  However, before you delete items in the registry, back up the registry in case it gets zapped.

I had to do that to get rid of Norton, several months ago.  Just be careful.

Thanx for the tip about backing up the registry. If the entry in start up does not cause problems, I'll not poke around in the registry as I am an average user + a bit cautious. If, however, there is a problem I'll be back.

if you have spybot, with spybot in "advanced" mode, you can go to spybot's "tools", and where it says "startup", or something like that, you should see the regkey for "realsched.exe", or "tkbell.exe" which is the same thing, listed there, and maybe you can delete the regkey from "startup", there..

using "regedit" (start/run/"regedit", minus quotation marks), go to hkey_local_machine/software/microsoft/windows/currentversion/run, and in the right pane, look for "tkbell.exe" or "realsched.exe", and delete it..

i use both realplayer and windows media player..

Thank you for the registry location.

For learning purposes may I ask a question?

I backed up the reg and created a restore point then (prior to your directions) located the following in the registry; First line = my comp>H key classes root. Srolling, I found four Real Player entries: 1-Real Player Audio.6, 2-Real Player dvd.6, 3-Real Player Flash.6, 4-Real Player.6

When I right clicked each, the right pane read = default Reg_sz and under that = edit flags Reg_Binary

What would I do here + would it have accomplished the same thing as your instructions?

I have done nothing yet as I am leery of losing a file or worse.

in regedit, you do not go to "hkey_classes_root", but to "hkey_local_machine" (two lines below "hkey_classes_root"). click it to expand the menu.. then go to "software", then "microsoft", then "windows", then "currentversion", then "run".. then, in the right pane, you will see either "tkbell.exe" or "realsched.exe" which are the same thing.. (i have already removed it, so i am not sure now, which it is)..

hkey_local_machine/software/microsoft/windows/currentversion/run

then, in the right pane, rightclick on "tkbell.exe" (or "realsched.exe"), and select "delete".. it is safe to do, if you are removing the proper regkey from the proper location, hkey_local_machine/software/microsoft/windows/currentversion/run..

I do understand the procedure you outlined-I'm sorry I did not make myself clear. I was asking if I could delete the four Real Player entries I found but apparently one cannot and must use regedit as you describe-point learned and thank you for the lesson all of which goes into my 'learned' folder'.

Win xp sp2

I followed your procedure;

regedit go to > hkey_local_machine/software/microsoft/windows/currentversion/run, and in the right pane, look for "tkbell.exe" or "realsched.exe", and delete it..

but the neither of the two entries you listed existed in the right pane-Real Player is still listed in my system config under startup. Is there another way to remove it. Thank you
