scandisk does not work

Are you turning everything off in your system tray when you run it?  Any non essential programs should be turned off before fragging.  If you have not run the program in quite awhile, its possible its still working even though it appears to be stopped.  Kip

Yes, I tried it when I shut everything else down also, still no luck

One thing to try is to clean out all your temp files prior to running.  Other than that Im out of ideas and hopefully someone else will chime in with some ideas.  Kip

See if the procedures given here allow it to run to completion without resorting to running it in Safe Mode.
