For something as simple as MS Word documents, have you considered just putting them on removable media...CDRW if you have a burner but even a floppy will hold a lot of text.
I do that also. I just would like to have more than one fail-safe program. CD's are not reliable. So... My question still stands: Does anyone know how to get a program that automatuically backs up Microsoft Worf files? Anyone who does: please respond.
The reason for my initial suggestion was that the HDD is the least reliable place for backups...and, removable media is very inexpensive and multiple copies virtually ensure the content.
That said, you will find a number of suggestions at the link below (including, Karen's Replicator) which are clearly marked whether "Shareware" or "Freeware". FWIW, I've not used the previously mentioned utility by Karen Kenworthy however, I've used several of her other offerings and every one has been very lightweight on the system and performed it's designed task perfectly.
Hm. I asked the wrong question. I used the wrong words. Never mind.
I am looking for the Word 2000 that automaticaly backs up Microfost Word Documents. I thought this feature was a download, since the MS word that was put by a shop in my computer had it, and my original MS word does not.
I am not looking for a download program to backup my computer.I am looking to back up written text on Microsoft Word 2000 document, by creating a copied duplicate of the original, and putting that duplicated document in my documents every time I add, or edit any document. So the dplicated backup document instantly duplicates every editing change I make when I re-write a paragraph, or change the spelling, or change the grammer, or punctuation...
This way I have a duplicate of my written text to back up if the original document develops a bug in it, or freezes, or cannot be opened. And I do not have to manually copy the document after I finish using it. The program copies the document automatically recording any-and-all changes I made to the text.
Of course I could manually copy the document every time I shut any written text of any chapter... But since I write and change chapters or add to them, ten to twenty times a day... I either forget, or it becomes a hassle to remember which chapter I edited and which one I didn't.
So forget my original question. Forget I asked anything. Sorry..
