software worked with xp but not with vista

Shouldn't there have been a warning about how software that worked perfectly with my dell xp computer wont work with vista? untill the bugs had been mostly worked out with vista i shouldn't have been made a guinea pig by dell without a warning. I guess i felt spending over $1,000 for a new computer should have made me happy... silly me

No, you weren't a "guinea pig". You just didn't do your homework. The Microsoft Upgrade Advisor has been available for many many months. "Silly you" for not doing any research or investigation beforehand.

The bugs are NOT with Vista (OK - maybe a few) but with the software manufacturers who had AMPLE time to port their software to Vista. Many simply chose not to do this (ie. poor consumer - buy the next version), others did, and others provided update patches to enable their software to run on Vista. Microsoft provided all software developers with the required information several months in advance of the release of Vista. Dell (or any other hardware manufacturer) has absolutely nothing to do with this issue.

I've tried to add MGI Photosuite to my dell computer (Windows XP), but i am unsuccesful. I keep getting the error message CANT RUN 16 BIT WINDOWS PROGRAM insufficient memory to run this application. Quit 1 or more windows applications then try again. I tried turning off anything that was running (firewall, antivirus) but that doesnt seem to help.

Hi bigpunke
Do you remember asking this question way back in 9\16\2003 at 7:40:am ?
I see you did not say you were a guinea pig then and you did not have a
warning before you tried to install that software on XP ,
So what makes you a guinea pig now and not then !
OH well times do change don,t they !!
See Yea !

True that C3P05! At that time my computer came with Dell Photosuite & Microsoft Picture It Photo 2002 so I did have alternatives. I would like to continue to use Picture It but can't. It seems Microsoft doesn't have any patches for that. My HP 2575 printer's CD  didn't work so I used the download from their website...it locked up my computer...after a restart I was then able to get the patch & now it works fine. I wrote my rant after spending more time than I would have liked trying to get that done. About remembering a post back in 2003...At my age I'm lucky to remember what I had for dinner last night!  I will miss my Picture It program though
