startup disk seek error on 4700

I am getting a "floppy diskette seek error" at startup, F1 to continue,  F2 to reun setup.

Runs fine after pressing F1. Anyone know what this error is?

MrHugh,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

You may want to open the system to see if the Floppy data cable has come loose and reseat them or it needs replaced. If you do not use the floppy you can boot into the bios and disable it.

Not clear -to me- if you actually have an internal floppy drive in this system or not...

If you don't, then it's possible the motherboard battery may have died. When the battery dies, BIOS gets reset to the factory defaults. The default setting for the floppy drive controller is ON, even if you don't have an internal floppy drive. So in that case, you may need to replace the battery and then run BIOS setup to disable the floppy drive controller, as Jesse already said.

Thanks Jesse, I had replaced the battery.  I checked the connections, and turned off internal floppy and

the message has stopped so I'm good for now.
