the file header checksum does not match the computed checksum

Has anyone come across this error? The file header checksum does not match the computed checksum. Error message comes up when trying to boot into Windows Vista. I’ve tried the repair options off the Vista DVD but nothing works.

I have a Dell Insipiron Laptop B130. Laptop was working fine a few weeks ago and I don't use it everyday. No new software installs have been done.
Could it be the CMOS Battery? If so where is the CMOS battery located?
Thanks for your help.

It's not the cmos battery. It sounds like a damaged system file or it could be bad memory. This is for XP, but might help: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/326687. You could boot to the vista disk and try a system restore to go back to before this happened. Here's something Google found for that error: http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2568080&SiteID=17
